The great tenors of the 78 era are introduced and analyzed artistically in a 13-part television series. Each episode has a biographical and a musical point of focus. The biographical point of focus is illustrated with a scene which conveys the atmosphere of the singer's world (in the episode about Caruso, for example, by a small store in Little Italy, New York) and trough conversations with family and friends. The musical point of focus originates through conversations with contemporary singers and teachers. For example, Gigli's chiaroscuro, Tito Schipa's messa di voce, or Tauber's modulation technique are explained.

Film cuts from the first films with sound serve not only as examples of the singer's art but also as profiles of them as actors. These cuts were newly scanned in the historical format and their speed and pitch were corrected; many of these cuts are from private collections or long-lost films and are shown here for the first time.

The series was filmed in black and white and the montage of scenes, interviews and film cuts was made without commentary. Texts on colored boards supplement the statements with historical details and original quotes. Every episode contains numerous musical examples and film cuts as well as the analysis of a representative recording in full length of the artist in focus.
