The Student Chorus of the Chinese University of Hong Kong
The Student Chorus, CUHK, which was established in the Spring of 1973, is affiliated to the Student Union of the University. Its membership is formed by the students from the three colleges of the University, namely Chung Chi College, New Asia College and United College. Now there are about some ninety members in the Chorus.
The Objectives of the Chorus are to raise the music standard of the members, to encourage the interests of students in music and to promote the development of the students in music education.
A series of programmes and activities has been held throughout the past four years, such as the Annual Spring Concert in March, the performances in community centers and schools during Summer Vacation, and the Welcome Concerts for new members in September etc. Apart from these usual activities, courses on the fundamentals on music are arranged for new members in the beginning of every academic year. Recreational functions like picnics, farewell camps and work camps etc. have also been organized so as to establish the members’ sense of belonging to the Chorus and to better the relationship among members. The chorus has also participated in the “Federation Nite”, an annual choral competition organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Students. We were champion for the past few years, and this year were placed second.
A choral concert which was open concert of the Chorus had just been held on February the 4th this year at Loke Yew Hall. This concert is not only the milestone of the Chorus, but also an indispensable preparation for our concert tour to the Philippines in August of this year.
The concert tour to the Philippines is regarded as a break through in the development of the Chorus. However, it is only with your support that is can be made successful.
