A human comedy filled with laughters and tears, Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) is perhaps the most appealing among the many great operas Mozart has ever written. Adapted from Beaumarchais's drama La folle journée, Mozart, with his great librettist collaborator Lorenzo da Ponte, has turned the political drama into a honey sweet opera buffa full of love and humanity. The plot, with all kinds of interesting subplots including hide-and-seek, assignations, would-be husband turning out to be a long-lost son, centres on the longing of the young Countess Almaviva to win back the love of her philandering husband with the help of her servants, Figaro and his betrothed Susanna, object of the Count's amorous attentions. The opera is filled with delightful arias and great vocal ensembles, the two finales being so good that they nearly form two little dramas on their own. The hilarious 'mad day' comes to an end with everybody involved singing praise of love, the only fitting end to such a day.

This production is organised by the Opera Hong Kong, and set of costumes are from the Foundazione Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, with Maurizio di Mattia, Resident Stage Director of the opera company, directing. He will be joined by a distinguished international and local cast.
